Keep every practice drive clear.
DriveClear tracks supervised permit hours on your iPhone or iPad. No account or password is required.
Quick start
- Set up the driver. Enter the teen driver’s name, optional permit number, and permit state.
- Add a supervisor. Open Settings and add the adult who will supervise drives. License details are optional.
- Start a drive. On Progress, choose Start Drive and select the supervisor. You can pause and resume the timer. A drive must last at least one credited minute to save.
- Finish the record. End the drive, choose the road type, and save. Add weather or notes later from the Log if needed.
You can also choose Add Past Drive to enter a session manually or correct its date, time, supervisor, road type, weather, notes, and day/night split.
Location and weather
Approximate location is optional. At the start of a live drive, DriveClear asks for one coarse location reading to calculate the local day/night split. It does not track your route. If location is unavailable, the app can use a prior in-memory fix or the center of the selected state.
When automatic weather is available, DriveClear requests the current condition once at the start of the drive. A slow or failed weather request never blocks logging. You can choose weather manually when adding or editing a drive.
Open Settings → Weather Data to check availability. If the test cannot get a condition, confirm that approximate location is allowed and try again with a network connection.
Review, sign, and export
The Progress screen shows total, day, and night time against the selected profile. The Log lets you inspect, edit, delete, or assign a supervisor to each drive.
Open Log → Sign & Export to preview an unsigned PDF at any time. Signing becomes available after the required total and night hours are complete, every drive has a valid supervisor, and any weekly-credit issue is resolved. The signer can draw a signature or use a typed full name.
Editing the driver, a supervisor, or a drive clears the saved certification. Review the current log and sign it again before sharing the final PDF.
Minnesota exports use the bundled DVS supervised-driving-log template. Exports for other states are supporting records. Read the notice shown in the app and follow the current instructions from the licensing agency for official forms, certificates, witnesses, notarization, and signatures.
Backup and transfer
Save a restorable backup
Open Settings → Export Backup and choose a destination in the iOS share sheet. This creates a DriveClear JSON backup containing the driver, supervisors, and drives.
Restore on this or another device
Open Settings → Restore from Backup and choose the JSON file. Restoring replaces every driver, supervisor, and drive currently stored in DriveClear on that device.
Export the current backup first if you may need it. CSV and PDF exports are useful for reading and sharing, but they cannot be restored into DriveClear.
Common questions
Does DriveClear sync automatically?
No. The app keeps its log on the device. You choose when and where to save a backup.
What states have built-in profiles?
North Carolina, Colorado, Minnesota, California, Texas, Florida, and Wisconsin. Other / not listed provides a general tracker. Check the current requirements for the permit state before the road test.
Why can’t I sign yet?
DriveClear requires the total and night-hour goals to be complete, a valid supervisor on every drive, the driver’s full name, and no unresolved weekly-credit warning. You can still preview an unsigned PDF.
